PORTFOLIO MANAGER

The Pivot Fund seeks a Portfolio Manager to support its mission of empowering independent community news outlets serving historically underrepresented audiences. The Portfolio Manager provides strategic coaching around growth, partnerships, community engagement, recruiting, and newsroom management, working closely with Pivot Fund grantees to adapt and execute plans for sustainability. 


The manager is part of a team providing thought leadership, data-driven insights, and editorial and operational support to build capacity, deepen impact, and advance quality news and information. The manager helps select news outlets to receive grants and wraparound services from The Pivot Fund and collaborates with other internal teams to engage with and serve grantees.


Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a dynamic peer-learning ecosystem where grantees collaborate, share best practices, and innovate together through organizing regular convenings and maintaining a grantee Slack channel
  • Maintain a database of grantees, respond to inquiries from and conduct outreach to prospective grantees  
  • Identify resources and partnerships to help build grantee capacity and sustainability
  • Participate in annual grantee evaluations and prepare grant renewals
  • Collaborate with other Pivot Fund teams, especially communications, to amplify grantees’ work


Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience working with community news that serves BIPOC and underrepresented audiences
  • Understanding of challenges facing local and community news and efforts to address them
  • Ability to work independently and strategically, setting priorities, defining goals and outcomes, and achieving results
  • Knowledge of revenue sources for news (events, sponsorship, and advertising), content management tools, and how to drive audience growth
  • Experience working with diverse teams and demonstrated cultural competency
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and auto insurance showing as an insured driver on the policy
  • Open to travel for the role up to four times a year


The Portfolio Manager reports to the Managing Director. 


This is a remote position.


The salary is $60-65,000 annually based on experience.
