Empowering Communities in Crisis: Spanish-Language Newsrooms on the Frontlines
June 27, 2025
In today’s rapidly shifting political landscape—where misinformation, fear, and policy uncertainty ripple through immigrant communities—Spanish-language newsrooms are doing far more than reporting the news. They are stepping in where traditional media falls short—not just to report, but to deliver essential tools, guidance, and support.
In a recent webinar hosted by The Pivot Fund, three newsroom leaders shared how they are adapting to this moment: Walter Gomez of Enlace Latino NC, Maria Barquin of the Radio Campesina Network, and Imelda Carrasco of Acción Latina, which publishes El Tecolote. Their conversation, moderated by Nicolás Ríos of Documented, offered a powerful window into how community-rooted outlets are using journalism to inform and empower.
