The Pivot Fund is the critical bridge to open up the flow of support and focus it on grassroots local news, especially in underserved communities. Once we’ve done our research on the local news landscape and built relationships with local news organizations, we provide funding and culturally competent wraparound support.
Transformative Funding
New outlets that serve historically marginalized and underserved communities are usually small, scrappy operations. Their founders don’t have time to chase small, conditional grants.
We provide grants large enough to:
- Hire staff and build capacity
- Expand reach into new markets
- Put grantees on the path to sustainability
Wraparound Support
We understand the unique challenges faced by publishers serving underserved and historically marginalized communities and provide support tailored to help them thrive locally.
We provide hands-on guidance on:
- Revenue strategies and effective management
- Publishing technology and implementation
- Community engagement and audience development
We bridge gaps between larger funders and community news organizations, partnering with both sides to advance local news.
Our grants are large enough to be transformational. Our culturally competent training and support helps grantees to succeed.
