The ideal candidate brings deep experience in for-profit and nonprofit media revenue development, along with a strong track record of driving revenue growth across multiple streams. This role will lead complex fundraising efforts—including institutional and corporate giving, sponsorships, membership and donor programs, and planned giving—while also developing earned-revenue models and new business ventures. The Business Development Manager will also support local and regional digital sales strategies for grantees.

Major Responsibilities

Organizational Revenue Growth

  • Grow The Pivot Fund’s traditional funding base, including:
    • Individual giving and major gifts
    • Annual giving, campaigns, and donor programs
    • Foundation grants and institutional giving
    • Corporate sponsorships and memberships
    • Planned giving initiatives
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward funding relationships with institutional, corporate, and individual supporters

Innovation & New Revenue Streams

  • Unleash new creative funding streams by:
    • Designing and testing earned-revenue models
    • Launching products and services aligned with The Pivot Fund’s mission
    • Initiating innovative ventures inspired by the organization’s unique assets and brand
  • Partner with other organizations (including other nonprofit entities) to develop joint funding, sponsorship, and revenue opportunities

Data, Strategy & Performance Management

  • Establish a KPI framework and methodology to measure, monitor, and forecast revenue pipelines across the organization
  • Use data and metrics to drive decision-making, refine strategies, and report on progress to leadership and key stakeholders

Support for Grantee Partners

  • Coach and inspire grantee partners to unlock new revenue streams and strengthen their business models
  • Collaborate with grantees to develop local and regional digital sales strategies and other revenue-generating initiatives
  • Share best practices, tools, and templates that help grantees build sustainable revenue over time

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 10+ years in diversified leadership roles driving and implementing revenue growth in nonprofit and for-profit organizations (media, journalism, or philanthropy experience strongly preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (e.g., business, marketing, communications, public administration, or a related discipline) or equivalent experience
  • Proven track record of growing revenue through:
    • New product development and new business ventures
    • Philanthropic stewardship and institutional giving
    • Membership and donor programs
    • Marketing, branding, and strategic partnerships
  • General management and P&L responsibility in prior roles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and make data-informed cases for support
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience building and managing pipelines, forecasts, and dashboards
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with historically marginalized communities and a strong commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Strong experience using metrics and data for decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and remote work environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, remote position (U.S.-based).

  • Salary Range: $115,000–$120,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Time Off: An unlimited PTO policy is offered to all full-time employees
  • Healthcare & Wellness:
    • Subsidized healthcare coverage, including medical, vision, and dental
